Debut lettings finish at Silverstone

Sahara Force India Formula One and the Nissan Le Mans P1 team are the first of a group of organisations to sign up for space at the next phase of MEPC’s Silverstone Formula 1 Grand Prix development.

Sahara Force India Formula One, the Nissan Le Mans P1 team, Bremont Watches, Delta Motorsports and Mai-Con have also agreed to take space at the Northamptonshire scheme.

Motorsport engineer Mai-Con has taken 10,000 sq ft, while the other tenants have taken 5,000 sq ft each. The average lease length is between five and ten years at a rent of around £8 per sq ft.

The companies will move into an 85,000 sq ft space on the site, which MEPC bought from motorsport presenter Eddie Jordan.

Construction work has also begun on 14 speculative industrial units for high-tech engineering companies, totalling 125,000 sq ft, at the site. The units are spread across two self-contained buildings and two terraces ranging in size from 5,000 sq ft to 25,000 sq ft.

Situated at the main entrance to the Silverstone circuit, the scheme will sit in newly landscaped grounds adjacent to the Buckingham Road units, which were formerly owned by Eddie Jordan.

A new metrology facility will be opened at the Silverstone Park Innovation Centre in collaboration with Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence. The facility is intended to attract local and global precision engineering companies from a variety of sectors beyond motorsport, including medical devices.

James Dipple, chief executive of MEPC, said: “Since taking over the management of Silverstone Park in September 2013, MEPC has increased the number of high-tech businesses on site from 50 to more than 70. Our market research shows that there is significant demand for industrial units in this size range and we have already received enquiries from companies that want to join the Silverstone Technology Cluster.”

James Watson, associate partner, DTRE, said: “This new phase at Silverstone Park reflects the success of businesses involved in the high-tech sector. Demand for high quality business premises is now outstripping supply not only at Silverstone Park but in the surrounding regions.”
