Demand for Welsh industrial space still rising, says King Sturge

Rising demand for industrial floorspace in Wales highlights the need for more speculative development in the principality, warns a new report by King Sturge. The firm publishes assessments of the industrial market three times a year. This is the fifth report in a row that shows a decline of available stock in Wales.

According to this latest survey, Wales saw the highest percentage fall in availability of anywhere in the UK at 6%. This compares with falls of 5% in the South East and 4% in the South West. A decline of 6% in Wales represents 61,000 sq m – leaving 909,000 sq m for sale or let.

King Sturge’s Anthony Jenkins commented: “The increase in demand for industrial space is very good news – but more speculative investment is needed now to continue these encouraging trends.”

The situation in Wales sharply contrasts with the northern regions, where demand for industrial space fell by 13%.
