Clive Emson Auctioneers took more than £18m at its five sales this month with a success rate of 80% from 140 lots.
Managing director James Emson said demand was outstripping supply in some areas. “Our well-attended and successful September sale has belied talk of doom and gloom around the industry. Packed salerooms and excellent results achieved for both vendors and purchasers are testament to the enduring popularity of bricks and mortar,” he said.
A five-bedroom house in an acre of grounds with scenic views overlooking Polperro harbour, east Cornwall, sold for £402,000 after intense bidding.
Ten Brighton city centre car parking spaces sold for £291,000, topping the lower guide by £101,000, and 26 mostly-let garages across Eastbourne went for £299,000 in three lots under instructions from the borough council.
An equestrian centre with development potential on a 3.7-acre site in Tiptree, Essex, including detached houses, an indoor riding school with viewing gallery, outbuildings, stables, a stable yard and paddock land, was purchased for £800,000.
A Victorian building in the centre of Faversham, Kent (pictured above), which sold for £500,000, is set to become a family home again after being used as offices for 60 years.
A lock-up garage in Southsea, Hampshire, was bought for £15,000.
The sales were held in Southampton, Maidstone, Brighton, Chelmsford and Saltash, Cornwall, on 11-15 September.
