Department of Education picks developer for Acton BTR

The Department of Education has selected Countryside to develop 116 homes at the Ark Soane mixed-use scheme in Acton, west London.

The scheme will include 92 build-to-rent homes to be acquired by a joint venture between Sigma and EQT, under the Simple Life London rental brand. A further 21 affordable homes will go to Network Homes, leaving three private market sale to be sold by Countryside.

The DfE’s arm’s-length developer, LocatED, is bringing forward the land to deliver a 1,200-pupil secondary school called Ark Soane Academy.

The school will occupy the first three floors of a six to 12-storey building. There will be 113 flats above this, as well as three separate townhouses.

Ark Soane has been designed by Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects. The site has full planning consent and Countryside has agreed a £52m design and build contract with Jerram Falkus Construction. The school is due to open by September 2022.
