Estates Gazette this week reveals the first image of Derwent London’s long-mooted plans to redevelop the former Astoria music venue at Tottenham Court Road, WC1.
The developer, in partnership with Crossrail, will shortly submit plans for a 500,000 sq ft redevelopment of the site. The scheme forms part of the over-site development of the new Tottenham Court Road East Crossrail station.
The plans, designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and Arup, include shops, offices and flats. The Astoria site, which Derwent assembled in 2006, was compulsorily purchased by Crossrail in 2009. The REIT will buy the site back once the east-west line is completed in 2017.
A number of other proposals for developments around the new Crossrail stations will be submitted over the coming months, including jvs with Grosvenor, Cardinal Lysander and Aviva Investors.
