Derwent Valley Properties has put in an application for an £18m office block on the corner of Broadwick Street and Berwick Street, W1, underlining the strength of the Soho market.
Richard Rogers Partnership has been appointed to design the 2,864 sq m (31,000 sq ft) building, which will include 557 sq m (6,000 sq ft) of retail. Work on site is expected to begin in 1998.
Derwent acquired the block as part of the MEPC portfolio it purchased for £31.2m last year. Centaur Publication’s lease on the building expires at the end of 1997.
Director Simon Silver said the scheme would be complete in time to catch the boom in demand for offices in the area. “We want to create something like the Channel 4 building: we don’t think enough of the buildings in the area speak of Soho.” he added.
