Derwent London has secured planning permission to convert the former Queens Cinema site, W2, into a 21,400 sq ft residential and retail scheme.
The developer has been granted planning permission by Westminster city council to create 16 flats and 2,700 sq ft of retail on the ground floor at 96-98 Bishop’s Bridge Road.
Tenants being sought for the Stiff + Trevillion-designed scheme include boutique retailers and art gallery owners.
Simon Silver, head of regeneration at Derwent, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to build apartments behind this exciting art deco façade. The regeneration of this disused building will substantially enhance the local vicinity, adding life to a significant corner site with excellent amenities on the doorstep, including Hyde Park just a few minutes walk away.”
Construction is expected to begin in early 2013 with completion due in late 2014.
