Desmond posts new plans for Westferry Printworks

Richard Desmond is drawing up fresh plans for the controversial redevelopment of Westferry Printworks, E14.

The billionaire former owner of the Daily Express has submitted new proposals for a huge housing project in east London, with almost twice the amount of housing envisaged under the original plans.

The Isle of Dogs scheme was originally approved in 2020 by then housing secretary Robert Jenrick, but it later emerged that he had been lobbied by Desmond, a Conservative donor.

The plans were then rejected in 2021 by Jenrick’s replacement, Michael Gove.

New proposals have been published for the development, which has been drawn up by a company that is part of Desmond’s Northern & Shell business empire. They involve a five-storey secondary school and 1,358 homes, including a 31-storey tower and a further 15-storey block.
