Grosvenor and AMA have submitted detailed plans for the £200m redevelopment of a former Edinburgh brewery site.
The joint venture, in partnership with the Royal Bank of Scotland, plans to build 160,000 sq ft of offices and 650 houses on the eight -acre site on Edinburgh’s West Approach Road to be known as Fountainbridge.
A £9m underground car-parking scheme for 650 vehicles also features in the plans.
Edinburgh-based landscape architect EDAW has designed the scheme public spaces.
About one third of the site has been allocated for open spaces – including a public park, children’s play area, central courtyards and network of walkways and cycle paths.
Two avenues will connect Fountainbridge with the West Approach Road, providing a link between the Viewforth and Haymarket areas of the city.
John Irvine, director of Grosvenor, said: “Our detailed planning application is a logical first step in the wider design process and sets the standards for the entire redevelopment of the Fountainbridge area.”
Dr Ali Afshar, director of AMA, said: “This is the first step in what will become one of the most significant improvements to the very urban fabric of Edinburgh and its city centre.”
Site demolition and preparation work has begun with construction scheduled to begin on site in August 2007.
