Deutsche Bank mulls retail banking spinoff

Deutsche Bank could announce proposals to spin off its retail banking unit as part of a strategic plan to be revealed in the second quarter of the year.

The move is one of the options available to the bank which is facing pressure to cut debt and to stop using deposits from customers to fund its investment banking activities, according to a person familiar with the matter. An alternate option would be to sell part of Postbank.

The bank has 2,700 branches, mostly in Germany.
