Developer completes Beecham building scheme

Liverpool-based developer Nicholson Group has completed its redevelopment of the former Beecham headquarters in St Helens, Merseyside.

The Grade II listed building, which dates back to the 1880s, was the first factory in the world built to produce medicine.

The scheme features seven one-bedroom flats and 11 two-bedroom flats, while the ground floor is dedicated for commercial use.

The scheme forms a part of the wider St Helens regeneration masterplan, to be delivered by English Cities Fund, a joint venture between Muse, Legal & General and Homes England.

Proposals for the first phase of St Helens’ redevelopment were lodged in December last year, featuring a new market hall flanked by a mixed-use scheme that will include a 120-bedroom hotel, 64 new homes, a 75,000 sq ft office and 11,000 sq ft of retail space.

The project is backed by St Helens Borough Council in the form of a £69.2m funding package confirmed for phase 1, with further support made available in in the form of £21.5m in grants from the UK Government and equity investment by ECF.
