Developer given ticket for Oxford cinema conversion

Marick Real Estate has been granted planning permission to deliver Oxford’s first aparthotel

The former Odeon cinema building at 38-40 George Street will be transformed into a 145-bedroom hotel. It will be operated by Dublin-based operator Staycity, which has agreed a 40-year lease to bring its Wilde premium brand to the city for the first time.

The aparthotel will comprise a mix of studios and one-bedroom flats featuring fully equipped kitchens as well as space to eat and relax. The aparthotel would also have a café, lounge, gym, laundry facilities and 24-hour reception. On the ground floor, Marick will deliver a new community space.

The all-electric scheme, designed by Studio Moren, is expected to achieve BREEAM Excellent rating.

Bidwells advised Marick on planning.
