Developer Ask:PATRIZIA has received planning approval from Gateshead Council for the development of a £48m dual-branded hotel at the heart of the city’s Quayside area.
The 180,898 sq ft hotel, designed by AHR Architects, will be located at Baltic Quarter, and will feature 344 bedrooms, a gym, restaurants, bars and business meeting rooms.
Vine Hotels will manage the hotel and it will be operated by Accor under its Novotel and Ibis brands.
The development forms part of the wider Gateshead Quays development, which also includes the delivery of the Sage, an arena and international conference centre.
The developers initially planned to adjoin the hotel to the Sage but after a careful review the decision has been made to move the hotel to a new location. As such, the wider development plans have been updated to open up the former hotel site as a landscaped park.
Ask:PATRIZIA is a partnership between developer Ask Real Estate and real estate investment management firm Patrizia.
Ask Real Estate managing director John Hughes said: “The delivery of a new hotel for the region on a derelict vacant site is not only an example of regeneration but it will create local jobs and boost spending benefitting the Gateshead region.”
Lichfields acted as planning consultants.
