The Chesterfields Waterside partnership is seeking a developer for their large scale residential-led mixed-use regeneration scheme in Chesterfield.
Property companies Arnold Laver and Bolsterstone have joined with Chesterfield council to deliver the scheme on 40-acres of industrial land on the River Rother corridor near the North Derbyshire market town.
Plans for the ‘urban village’ include residential, office, leisure and waterside public realm spaces and the regeneration of the former Arnold Laver Timber World and Trebor sites.
The site stretches from the town’s rail station to the Tesco store at Rother Way, taking in virtually all of the land between the A61 and the Mainline Railway.
The partnership already controls significant areas of land within the site and the council could CPO’s if necessary to complete land assembly.
Interested parties are invited to submit expressions of interest and it is anticipated that the selection process will be completed by the year end, with a view to an outline planning application being submitted to the local authority by spring 2007.
Partnership chairman Peter Swallow of Bolsterstone said: “We now intend to seek a development partner, via a design-led competitive process, with a strong track record in delivering high quality mixed-use developments to create a new urban village that provides a mix of high quality buildings and public spaces to address the attractive waterside setting.
“The developers will be expected to work closely with the partnership to involve leading architects and undertake an urban design, architectural and development appraisal process to show how this fantastic opportunity can be fully realised.
“Chesterfield Waterside is expecting the development partner to add significant value to the development process to ensure a truly innovative and high profile project,” added Peter.
