A development partner is being sought for a 16.5-acre council-owned site in Somerset.
Taunton Deane council has appointed Alder King to draw up a shortlist for a scheme in the Firepool area, which includes the livestock market and Priory Bridge Road car park.
It is likely to include 500 homes as well as shops and restaurants.
Council leader John Williams said the strategic position of the site meant it could attract “a wide range of businesses”.
