Developers braced for leasehold law change

In the news this morning, both McCarthy & Stone and Berkeley could be affected by new rules on leasehold. The boss of property firm Segro said the demand for warehouse space had risen sharply as retailers fought for better delivery times. Domino’s Pizza Group suffered a disappointing set of first half results prompting speculation of a takeover, but McDonald’s delivered its best second quarter results in the last five years, and Metro Bank reversed last year’s loss to post a pre-tax profit of £6m. Some areas of the country are seeing a weakening in the housing market, according to challenger bank Virgin Money.
