Developers divided over Save Soho

Soho-THUMBOpinions are sharply divided over what is happening to Soho. Is it turning into a Mayfair overspill, or will it always retain its distinctive bohemian vibe?

Stephen Fry, Benedict Cumberbatch and EastEnders’ June Brown all agree that Soho is in danger. Dull men who work with money – hedge fund managers, not the pimps and racketeers of old Soho – are moving in, paying record rents of £100 per sq ft.

Opinions are sharply divided and it is not just a stand-off between creative industry campaigners and their showbiz pals on one side and landlords on developers on the other. There is also a difference of opinion among landlords with Raymond Estates joining the Save Soho battle on one side and Soho Estates on the other.
