Iceni Developments and Kingchem have submitted plans for a mixed 500,000 sq ft scheme to upgrade facilities at Norwich International Airport.
The developers have applied to Norwich city council for outline planning permission for an 8-bed budget hotel, a family pub/restaurant, three new business units, a car showroom and a crèche.
The scheme, on a 5.26ha (13 acre) site by the airport entrance off Holt Road, has a development value in the region of £19m. Iceni and Kingchem are also offering to provide a new bus only link onto Fifers Lane to the south of the site, plus new cycle and footpath access.
The developers expect to sell the land off in freehold lots or design-and-build packages for individual users.
David Henry, head of planning at FPDSavills’ Cambridge office, who is advising the developers, said: “Norwich International Airport is going for growth. Passenger numbers have already grown from 264,000 in 1997 to 318,000 in 1998 – an increase of some 20% in one year. These proposals are an important next step in this growth strategy providing much needed new facilities.”
