Developers ready to lobby gambling minister over super casinos

New minister for gambling Richard Caborn can expect fierce lobbying in the coming weeks from developers, operators and local authorities over the issue of super casinos.

The announcement on Wednesday that Caborn would replace Lord McIntosh in the role is likely to be welcomed by the many groups eyeing super casino schemes in the UK.

They have been waiting for the dust to settle on the Department of Culture, Media and Sport’s reshuffled team before making decisions on how to proceed following last month’s 11th-hour decision to cut the number of super casinos allowed in the UK from eight to one.

Caborn, who remains minister for sport but also takes over responsibility for the lottery and the London 2012 bid, supported the case for larger casinos in previous incarnations of the Gambling Bill.

Developers will now be looking for signs that Caborn is to return to the matter of super casinos before the parliamentary recess for summer.
