Neptune Developments and Countryside Properties have revealed new details of plans for a £112m development on Mann Island in central Liverpool.
The scheme, on the site of the defunct Fourth Grace, includes 109,000 sq ft of offices, 373 flats and 75,000 sq ft of retail and leisure in three buildings.
It also includes new public spaces aimed at reconnecting the waterfront with the city’s main shopping areas.
The proposals, designed by architect Broadway Malyan, are currently out for consultation and have already won the backing of CABE.
However, previous proposals for the site, as well as the proposed neighbouring Museum of Liverpool on a neighbouring plot, have been the subject of local objections.
Matt Brook, Associate Director of Broadway Malyan, said: “The contemporary scheme, which has been designed to be respectful to its setting, creates framed views of the Three Graces whilst providing a dramatic new skyline which will be instantly recognisable.”
Steve Parry, managing director of Neptune, added: “It will complement and not compete with Liverpool’s internationally recognised waterfront landmarks.”
The Mann Island site sits between the Pier Head, Albert Dock and the Three Graces.
The Northwest Development Agency is backing development on the site.
Neptune and Countryside were part of the original Will Alsop-led consortium for the Fourth Grace scheme, which collapsed in July 2004 following the withdrawal of public sector backing.
