Tees Valley Regeneration is calling developers to put forward proposals for the £170m mixed-use Central Park development in Darlington, Durham.
Planning permission for the scheme was recently granted, and the masterplan includes 600 homes, a hotel and conference centre, shops and offices, a doctor’s surgery, play areas, car parking and landscaped areas.
The Central Park site will also be home to a new £35m college campus, built by Shepherd Construction which is due to open in September.
The 74-acre site is adjacent to Darlington town centre, just next to the main East Coast Main Line Railway station and close to the A1, the A19 and Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Chief executive of Tees Valley Regeneration, Joe Docherty, said: “The master plan sets out a vision for the site that will get the developers champing at the bit over yet another exciting opportunity the Tees Valley has to offer.
“Central Park is at the hub of Darlington and we are confident that as a result of this event we will have a shortlist of top name developers who see the area for what it is a gem.”
Tees Valley Regeneration will work with partners Darlington Borough Council, One NorthEast, English Partnerships, Darlington College and Tees Valley Partnership.
Chris Munro, senior regeneration manager for English Partnerships said: “Central Park is an exciting development opportunity which will not only develop the heart of the town, but will reinforce Darlington’s position as a key growth centre in the Tees Valley region.”
