Developers unveil £150m Trinity Quarter plans for Leeds

Universities Superannuation Scheme and Bluewater developer Lend Lease have unveiled plans for the £150m Trinity Quarter development in Leeds city centre.

USS and Lend Lease are holding a public exhibition in the city from 13 to 17 June to promote their proposals for the 27,870 sq m (300,000 sq ft) retail scheme.

The development links Commercial Street and Briggate, and will include demolition of the existing Burton and Trinity Arcades. It will provide two levels of retail, comprising 70 shops, a glass roof terrace, which will house café’s and restaurants, and a tiered piazza, which will be an informal ‘meeting place’ where people can relax.

A spokeswoman for the team, said: “We’ve learnt a lot and taken elements from Bluewater for this scheme. The development will provide space for larger flagship stores which Leeds desperately needs.”

USS and Lend Lease have worked closely with the council and a detailed application has just been submitted. Work will start on site in Spring 2001, with completion due in Spring 2003.

Jones Lang LaSalle and Howes and Holden are letting agents for the scheme.
