Defence Infrastructure Organisation has announced it will build a 101,000 sq ft air despatch facility at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.
DIO has awarded a £21.6m contract to Interserve Defence and SSE Contracting to design and build the facility for 47 Air Despatch, Royal Logistics Corps.
Work will start in August 2011 to provide new offices, equipment storage and operational capacity to improve the efficiency of delivery of supplies to overseas destinations.
DIO project manager Denis Williams said: “DIO’s top priority is to support our armed forces in preparing for operations.
“Reaching the point of contract award on this project has involved close cooperation between all parties to achieve a scheme of technical viability within budget constraints and a challenging programme.”
