Docklands data centre set for green light

Ada Infrastructure, the data centre platform of GLP Capital Partners, has been given a resolution to grant planning from Newham Council’s strategic development committee to deliver one of London’s largest data centre campuses.

The 210 MW Docklands data centre campus will comprise three 70 MW, eight-storey buildings and is expected to be operational by 2027. Ada said the buildings had been designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and engineered to be “AI-ready” from day one.

Jennifer Weitzel, president of Ada Infrastructure, said: “This new data centre development embodies our commitment to driving positive change through the use of sustainable technology and materials, a robust environmental, health and safety program, and an ongoing investment in the communities in which we work and live.

“In addition to collaborating with local partners to provide job training and employment opportunities, the project’s future-ready design, including energy-efficient systems, net positive landscaping and strict physical and cybersecurity protocols will set new standards for safe and sustainable development in the age of AI.”

The scheme is the latest in a growing number of data centres being developed in east London. In February, Global Switch got the go ahead for a five-storey 270,000 sq ft data centre at its Docklands campus. The scheme is its third in London.

Data from Cushman & Wakefield shows that London remains the leading data centre market in EMEA with an operation IT load of 996MW and has one of the most active development pipeline with some 100MW of IT load under construction and more than 500MW in planning.
