Domain names’ cachet dwindles at auction

Property domain names failed to attract buyers at a Conrad Ritblat auction held this week.

Only five internet dot.com addresses were sold out of the 12 on auction at the Portman Hotel this week. Buyers for the domain names included a property agent, who bought two for a total of £500.

According to Conrad Ritblat, some trade domains fetch up to £500,000, but the highest bid, which was “sellukproperty.com”, only came in at £325.

Auctioneer Simon Riggall said it had been the first time domain names had been auctioned: “We intend to repeat the exercise.”
