Dome supercasino tycoon killed in helicopter crash

The head of Kerzner International, the South African gaming giant lined up to operate a super-casino leisure complex at the Millennium Dome, has died in a helicopter crash.

Howard “Butch” Kerzner, chief executive officer of Kerzner International, was killed when the helicopter crashed into the roof of a nursery in the tourist resort of Sousa in the Dominican Republic.

Three other passengers, including the son of a US property developer, also died.

Kerzner International has a deal with Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) to operate a super-casino gambling complex at the Millennium Dome in Greenwich east London.

The Dome is the favourite of seven locations shortlisted in the bid to win the licence for the UK’s only permitted super-casino.

Kerzner, and his father, chairman Sol Kerzner, the South African tycoon who created Sun City, recently led a $3.2bn buyout of their company.
