Plans for the new National College for High Speed Rail at Lakeside in Doncaster have been given the green light.

The 61,350 sq ft college has been designed by Bond Bryan Architects and developed with Birmingham City Council and the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership alongside Doncaster Metropolitan Borough council and HS2.

The £25m college will train the highly skilled workforce required to build HS2 and other future infrastructure projects.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “The National College for High Speed Rail is progressing at a rapid rate of knots. With planning approval secured it signals the green light for this transformational project to move into its construction phase.”

The college will have two main sites in Doncaster and Birmingham.

HS2 will support up to 100,000 jobs nationwide and create around 25,000 jobs during construction of phases one and two.

Work will start on site in April, with practical completion due in September 2017.
