Downing jv plans more student digs in Liverpool

A joint venture between developer Downing and two board members of pensions firm AJ Bell have submitted plans for three student towers in Liverpool.

The 738 beds are planned across three towers ranging from eight to 15 storeys on Norton Street in the Islington district.

AJ Bell chief executive Andrew Bell and managing director Fergus Lyons each control a 25% stake in the venture.

It follows a £60m application by the joint venture, known as Islington Regeneration, for an 860-bed project which was approved earlier this year.

The firm has been locked in discussions with Liverpool council about rejuvenating the Islington area since before the recession.
