Downing Developments is working up plans for a co-living scheme to replace build-to-rent proposals at Manchester’s First Street.
It acquired the 624-home BTR development for £18m from Patrizia Immobilien earlier this year.
Liverpool-based Downing Developments is proposing a co-living development as part of a mixed-use scheme. The developer is holding public consultation on the new plans on 3 October.
The new scheme supersedes the now-expired BTR plans. Patrizia had planned to deliver its first-ever BTR development across four blocks, with 14,122 sq ft of commercial space and public realm, before passing the site to Downing in March.
The development follows a recent surge in co-living from a number of new entrants.
Last year, Manchester City Council approved the city’s first co-living scheme with iQ set to deliver 403 units at Echo Street.
Following on from this, Progressive Living is planning a co-living scheme at Gorton Street in Salford and, earlier this year, entrepreneur Colin Shenton launched his platform Oppidan in the Northern Quarter.
