Downing selected to redevelop Liverpool’s Scandinavian Hotel

Liverpool council has selected local developer Downing Developments as preferred developer for the city’s derelict Scandinavian Hotel.

Consent exists for the redevelopment of the derelict property, which stands at the corner of Duke Street and Great George Street, as a £17m hotel with shops, leisure facilities and luxury flats.

Downing also announced this week that it is planning a £4m refurbishment at Graeme House in the citys Derby Square, as well as a refurbishment of 1 Old Hall Street.

Other refurbishment projects recently completed by Downing include the Port of Liverpool Building, one of the famous ‘Three Graces’ on Liverpool’s Pier Head, 1 Wellington Buildings, Victoria House and New Zealand House.

Downing, in combination with David McLean and architect Edward Cullinan, is one of four consortia left in the running to build Liverpool’s ‘Fourth Grace’, a landmark office development on the city’s waterfront.
