Du Pont buy £2m Bristol site

The American Du Pont company have paid Avon County Council £2m for a 38-acre site in Coldharbour Lane, Stoke Gifford, on the northern edge of Bristol.

Du Pont will be building a 100,000-sq ft hi-tech factory for their UK electronics projects, with another 50,000 sq ft to follow later. The new plant will not be in production until late 1987 at the earliest and will initially employ about 400.

The company’s existing factory at Yate will be closed once the new premises are in operation.

Adjoining Bristol Polytechnic, the site is also close to another American electronics giant, Hewlett-Packard. The county, which assembled the site for Du Pont, has another 40 acres available next door.
