VIDEO: Dublin’s economic recovery is being halted by a lack of available office space in the city.
This was the overarching theme at Estates Gazette’s latest Question Time event in Dublin this week.
Panellists heard from the audience just how difficult it is for start-up companies to expand in the city.
John O’Keeffe, vice-president of start-up Nitro, said the effect of a lack of office space on Dublin’s economy should not be underestimated.
“We anticipate we will get to 150-200 people over the next two to three years, if not more,” he said.
“One of the prohibitive factors of us growing in Ireland, and Europe, is office space in Dublin. We want to grow and create jobs in Dublin, but there is no office space available.”
Peter Collins, managing director at Kennedy Wilson, agreed, saying: “I think there is a shortage of space in Dublin, and I think it is going to cause a problem for expanding tenants because people tend to live one to two years ahead. But I do think a solution is on the way.”
