Cadogan Estate’s £150m Duke of York Square on the King’s Road in west London was officially opened today by the current Duke of York, HRH Prince Andrew.
The prince unveiled a stone tablet to mark the completion of the 107,000 sq ft (9,940 sq m) first phase of the retail-led scheme.
Space in the first phase has been let to London Furniture Company, which will occupy a 25,000 sq ft (2,322 sq m) store in the scheme, as well as Joseph, Agnes B, Kate Kuba, Jigsaw, Yves Delorme, Villeroy & Boch, Patissérie Valerie and Crew Clothing.
The new piazza which the scheme surrounds is the capital’s first public square, outside of the City of London, to be created for over a century.
Stuart Corbyn, chief executive of Cadogan, said: ” We have sought to avoid the homogenous, unimaginative retail mix that one finds on every high street around the UK.
“Today marks the culmination of a great deal of hard work by our professional team following the purchase of the Duke of York’s Barracks in 2000 that returned the site to the ownership of the Cadogan Estate.”
