Dunster’s answer to housing crisis: pods on stilts

Architect Bill Dunster hopes he has come up with an answer to the lack of affordable housing, designing pod homes on stilts that can sit above car park and ride spaces.

The eco-friendly homes, offering 74 sq ft of floor space, could sell for around £50,000 to £60,000, or rent for £750 a month.

Dunster said the best plan to provide land for affordable housing seemed to be to find already tarmacked areas, with park-and-rides and shopping centres a good start. His company, ZED factory, has approached Oxford City Council about a trial of 50 homes, but the latter has yet to make a decision.
