Duo of tenants take space at Cambridge’s Broers Building

Nu Quantum and Next Gen Diagnostics UK have joined life sciences and tech companies at the University of Cambridge’s innovation district in Cambridge West.

The duo have each signed up for lab space at the Broers Building on a five-year lease.

Nu Quantum has expanded its operation on the site and will now occupy Suite S2, comprising 1,872 sq ft. The move comes alongside an extension of its existing lease on Suite G3, taking the firm’s total footprint in the building to 5,409 sq ft.

Additional space is expected to increase Nu Quantum’s laboratory provision as it continues to build the quantum networking infrastructure essential to scaling quantum computers.

Next Gen Diagnostics will move into Suite F3, comprising 718 sq ft. The move follows the formation of the firm’s UK subsidiary in March this year. Founded in the US by Paul Rhodes along with Sanger Institute group leaders, Next Gen has built and validated automation of pathogen bioinformatics, enabling high-throughput, low-cost clinical use of whole-genome sequencing.

Carter Jonas advised the university on the deals.

Kurt Richards, partner at Carter Jonas, said: “Cambridge is a hub for talent and continues to receive strong demand for prime business and innovation centres such as the Broers Building.

“Despite macroeconomic challenges, well-positioned cluster locations such as this provide and support opportunities for collaboration between universities and the business sector and have a positive impact on growth.”
