Durkan Estates has won approval for a 23-storey residential tower at the site of former mail-order business Britannia Music in Ilford, Essex.
The London borough of Redbridge this week approved plans for the 354-home development, which includes 10,000 sq ft of shops.
The plans revised an original consent granted in 2010, adding 22 more flats in the place of commercial space. Permission was granted on the condition construction starts no later than 5 October 2013.
The scheme has been shortlisted for a grant from the Get Britain Building fund.
