Dutch investor buys Getronics Data Centre

Principal Global Investors has bought a data centre in Runcorn, Cheshire, for £41.6m.

The 45,000 sq ft site is home to Getronics, the Dutch-headquartered software developer. It was purchased in an off-market sale and leaseback transaction, with Getronics committing to a 20-year lease.

The transaction marks the second data centre acquisition of the Principal European Data Centre Fund I. Last month, Principal announced the first acquisition of the fund with the purchase of the AtlasEdge data centre in Barcelona, Spain.

JLL advised Getronics, with CBRE representing Principal on the deal.

Paul Lewis, director of European data centres, real estate at Principal, said: “Following our first acquisition in Barcelona, we have strong momentum to achieve our goals for the final close of our €205m Data Centre Fund and to continue executing on our acquisition plans across Europe.”
