DWP pensions off Times space

Land Securities Trillium is poised to dispose of up to 200,000 sq ft of office space on behalf of the Department for Work & Pensions at The Times’ former building in Midtown.

The outsourcing specialist, which manages the DWP portfolio under the Prime contract, has appointed GVA Chapman Swabey to market the surplus space at 222 Gray’s Inn Road, WC1. GVA beat off pitches from rivals CBRE, Kinney Green Stanford Webster, Knight Frank and Strutt & Parker.

The DWP holds the headlease of the building, which housed The Times until it moved to Wapping in 1986. The freeholder is CLS Holdings. SJ Berwin sublets 75,000 sq ft, but is leaving this year for 10 Queen Street Place, EC4. The DWP is also likely to vacate the remaining 125,000 sq ft.

LST has also appointed architect Tate & Hindle to prepare designs for a refurbishment of the building.
