E-trade success deals heavy blow to call centre market

Software giant Oracle has confirmed market fears that e-trade could spell the end for the call centre sector.

The world’s second-largest software company has decided to close its call centre operation in Dublin’s Eastpoint Business Park, only two years after setting up in the Irish capital. However, it claims that the growth sales over the web has rendered its telemarketing operation virtually obsolete. Oracle predicts growth of more than 200% for 2000.

Experts observe that the future of call centres is now on dangerous ground and is likely to fall prey to the thriving dot com revolution.
