East Anglia RDA kickstarts urban village scheme

The East of England Development Agency (EEDA) has granted £6m to kickstart a 50ha (123.5 acre) regeneration site in Norfolk.

King’s Lynn council is looking for a further £12m of public funding to begin the development of the Nar-Ouse regeneration area to the south of the town. The EEDA funding will be provided over the next 10 years, and will allow the council to pitch for single regeneration budget funding from the European Union.

Planning consultancy EDAW has drawn up proposals for a business park, an urban village, retail, hotel and leisure developments and public open space on the largely brownfield site. The area includes a former fertiliser factory, known locally as “The Muckworks”.

EEDA’s director of programmes, Melissa Nixon, said: “The Nar-Ouse regeneration area is one of the most important brownfield sites in the region and could enable King’s Lynn to compete more effectively for investment, provide much needed housing and increase the town’s potential as a tourist destination.”
