East India Dock leisure scheme mooted

The historic East India Docks site opposite north-east London’s Greenwich Peninsula is to be turned into a mixed-use scheme.

The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and London Thames Gateway Development Corporation have appointed Savills to find a development partner for the 10-acre site.

The regeneration is set to include visitor attractions, a marina, restaurants, a hotel and “one of the premier open public spaces in the area”.

The dock was opened for business in 1806 and was one of the most profitable trading docks throughout the 19th century.

Initial expressions of interest are required by the end of July. The scheme is scheduled for completion in 2011.
