Eating out not helped out by Omicron

The emergence of the new Omicron Covid-19 variant has already hurt the recovery of the hospitality sector.

The number of people dining out fell by 6% in the week to Monday to its lowest level since the middle of May, according to real-time data from the Office for National Statistics.

However, the period coincided with a cold snap, which might have convinced people to stay home rather than eat out.
