Eden buys Greenway Spa Hotel

The Eden Hotel Collection has acquired the Greenway Spa Hotel in Cheltenham from the administrators of Von Essen Hotels.

The Greenway Spa, a 17-bedroom Elizabethan manor house, was sold off a guide price of £3.5m. It is set in about eight acres of parkland at the edge of the Cotswolds.

As revealed by Estates Gazette, administrators from Ernst & Young appointed Christie + Co to market the collection of 27 country house hotels at the beginning of June.

The portfolio included a number of historic hotels, such as Cliveden in Berkshire, the Royal Crescent in Bath, as well as hotel development Thorn Island Battery Fort, located on an island off the Pembrokeshire coast.

Chris Day, managing director of Christie + Co, said: “We are delighted to have sold yet another of these fine country house hotels, and especially to such a renowned operator as Eden Hotel Collection, in whose portfolio the Greenway Spa will fit very comfortably.

“Recent sales of hotels in the von Essen portfolio reinforce the great deal of interest shown in the group by existing experienced operators, such as the Eden Collection.”
