Edge presses on with Cardiff site assemby in spite of planning appeal

Edge Properties has taken the next step towards assembing the site for a 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) retail park in Cardiff despite the Secretary of State for Wales calling in the planning application.

The property company has paid Culver Holdings £2.9m for a car showroom let to Wyndham Motor Corporation on a 1.2ha (3 acre) site opposite Marks & Spencer and Tesco at Culverhouse Cross, west of the city. The acquisition also includes options on two adjoining sites of 2.4ha (6 acres).

Edge’s planning application for the shopping centre was called in by Welsh Secretary Ron Davies because of the sheer scale of the development. The entire area, including Edge’s own 9.8 ha (4 acre) site, is now subject to a planning appeal.

In a separate deal, Edge has completed the sale of its retail warehouse scheme on Newport Road, Cardiff, to Save & Prosper for £6.8m.
