The Albert Dock Company in Liverpool has appointed a new director in a drive to increase the take-up of vacant units.
Joe Edge, who has previously been involved in the development of London’s Covent Garden Market and the Wafi Shopping Mall in Dubai, joins the company in July.
His previous role was manager of the Victoria Shopping Centre in Llandudno, a position he held for 16 years.
Albert Dock, Merseyside’s most visited tourist attraction, recently underwent a repositioning exercise to focus more on leisure and tourism and less on general retailing.
Edge said: “My first priority will be to play a major role in understanding the needs of our tenants and to give our visitors a true sense of value.
“I also aim to guide the lettings of all vacant space and my objective is not simply filling this space, it will be 100% loyalty to our existing tenants, to create a world class attraction.”
Research conducted by The Mersey Partnership recently indicated that the leisure market at the Albert Dock is set to rise significantly, in line with footfall increases from cruise passengers and other tourists.
Tony Kulp, Director of Arrowcroft, which owns the Albert Dock Company, said: “This is a very exciting time for the Albert Dock with major waterfront developments on our doorstep and Capital of Culture in 2008.
“For the Albert Dock to grow further it is essential that we continue to strengthen our team by bringing in new expertise and ideas.”
Edge takes over from Ian Brown, who has left the Albert Dock Company after less than three years in the job.
