Edinburgh Biotech park given the go-ahead

Plans proposed by the economic development agency Scottish Enterprise (SE) for a biotech park on a 14.6ha (36 acres) green belt site at Gowkley Moss, near Penicuick, have been approved by Scottish ministers.

The application was initially called in because of the possible effect on the green belt. A planning report was drawn up concerning the scheme’s impact on the environment, but it has been overriden.

The site was chosen because of its proximity to other biotech firms and research institutes. The development could create an estimated 900 jobs.
