Estates Gazette Awards 2016: the judges describe their style

Property industry leaders who debated over more than 200 entries to decide this year’s EG Awards shortlist have described the cut-throat process in an EGTV video.

The judges also describe their judging style with tongue-in-cheek monikers, including Batman – the name that New River Retail chief executive Allan Lockhart bestowed upon himself.

“I very much operate in the shadows but always come out on the side of good,” Lockhart said in the reel.

Meanwhile, Victoria Lockhart, a 2015 Estates Gazette Rising Star and sustainability expert at Arup, offered a blunt message to future entrants, saying: “I don’t think a website rebrand quite cuts it.”

And Scottish developer Chris Stewart, or “the unforgiving one”, described the other judges as “far too forgiving”.
