EG etc: Dalata books in for a half-million

Irish hotel company Dalata is partnering with Children’s Medical & Research Foundation Crumlin for a third consecutive year. Over the past couple of years, the hotel group has raised €419,000 for CMRF Crumlin and aims to pass €500,000 by the end of 2018.

Funds raised so far have been put towards research work into neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system that mainly affects children under five.

Fundraising events include cycling Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, a ball, and 100 employees climbing the country’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil.

Next generation takes the reins at Robertson

Infrastructure firm Robertson Group brought a new meaning to the phrase “family run” as employees welcomed their children to the workplace recently.

As part of the global Take Your Child to Work Day initiative on  26 April, 17 Robertson employees from different divisions handed the reins over to their kids as they dipped their toes into the world of grown-up work.

The Mini-Mes helped out in the mailing room; took part in an asbestos awareness test; visited the Dundee Waterfront development; and took a site tour of West Fife Depot.

Gemma Gourlay, director of social sustainability for Robertson Group, said: “It was brilliant to welcome so many young, eager employees to our sites and offices across the country to give many their first taste of what’s to come beyond education. I’m sure the parents learnt a lesson or two as well.”

LionHeart promotes good mental health

Chartered surveyors’ charity LionHeart is running four symposium-style events focusing on mental health and wellbeing in the property industry.

The John O’Halloran Symposium is open to anyone working in property who wants to find out more about mental health and how to provide better support in the workplace.

The project was set up in 2016 in memory of John O’Halloran, former managing director of BAA Lynton, who had battled with depression.

Each event will feature LionHeart ambassadors as well as industry figures and mental health experts. There will be discussions on steps that can be taken in the workplace to provide better support for staff wellbeing, and how to tackle the stigma faced by those suffering mental health problems

Dates for the events are London, 9 May; Cardiff, 15 May; Manchester, 22 May; and Edinburgh, 30 May.
