A team of 25 intrepid cyclists from Hawkins\Brown will tackle three stages of a 425km route from the architects’ Manchester studio to its London practice on 23 June. Helping with training is team member and former Irish national cyclist Louise Moriarty. The team is raising funds for Lewisham-based charity For Jimmy, set up in memory of Jimmy Mizen, which works with local schools and businesses to help the area’s youngsters.

Derick’s efforts earn a royal invitation
GVA’s Derick Jackson has been recognised for his fundraising challenges with a royal invitation to the Queen’s Garden Party. A youth leader for the Church Lads’ and Church Girls Brigade in the North East, he has raised more than £25,000 for Newcastle’s St Oswald’s hospice, by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, scaling Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull and trekking 100 miles along the Great Wall of China.
GVA team makes a big difference on the farm
GVA’s building consultancy team got their hands dirty and transformed the facilities at the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust in Dunham Massey, Altrincham. The 24-strong team spent a day at the centre for terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children. Charity relationship manager Alistair Laing said: “Everyone was so enthusiastic and full of energy and it was amazing to see the amount of work they got through.”
PROPS lunch raises £300,000
The 2017 PROPS awards lunch at the Park Lane Hilton s raised £300,000 for Variety, including a donation to help victims of the Manchester Arena bombing. Event hosts included former rugby player Martin Bayfield and Miss World Stephanie De Valle. Among the award winners was Grainger’s Helen Gordon, who was named most promising newcomer.
Speeding ahead for a cure
Property law company Maples Teesdale accelerated into the lead as the top fundraisers at the Pedal Power – Ride to Cure Diabetes event. A total of 37 teams took part in the static bike ride at the London Royal Exchange, raising £10,688 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. Maples Teesdale entered two teams, led by partner Roger Thornton, and raised more than £3,700.
Ride out for homeless
The Chilterns countryside was the setting for Aitchisons’ sponsored cycle challenge. The 481 riders had a choice of three routes all starting and finishing at Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead. The event, in partnership with British Cycling, raised £12,000 for the DENS charity, which supports people facing homelessness and poverty in the Hertfordshire borough of Dacorum.
Bright idea for fundraising
Watford Colour Run, sponsored by Aitchisons Estate Agents raised more than £30,000 for Peace Hospice Care, which offers care and support for people with a life-limiting illness in Hertfordshire. The runners of the vibrant 5k fun run were showered in colour paint, dowsed in water and had to wade through foam along the route.
