EG to provide data for Grimsey’s retail review

EG has been appointed as a main data contributor to Bill Grimsey’s second Grimsey Review.

The report, which comes five years after the first review was published in 2013, will look at Britain’s high streets and town centres in the wake of recent Company Voluntary Arrangements (CVAs), administrations and closures, including firms such as Warren Evans, Thomas Cook, Carluccio’s, Jamie Oliver, Byron, Toys R Us, Prezzo, Maplin and New Look.

It will also revisit the first Grimsey Review, ‘An Alternative Future for the High Street’, and address what impact it had, which recommendations worked, what has changed since the review, and what should be done now to better prepare high streets and town centres for the 21st century.

Head retail analyst James Child will lead the research effort on behalf of EG. Contributions will include data and analysis on the performance on the high street over the past five years, looking at how the average shop has changed, and planning activity in the regions.

The research will include EG’s analysis on the effects of e-commerce on industrial and logistics space and what type of warehouses are being occupied. It will also examine whether the recent flurry of council investment activity helps or hinders the rejuvenation of regional shopping districts.
